To celebrate 90 years of serving the Western U.S., John L. Scott real estate company has pledged $90,000 in scholarships for diverse teacher candidates.
Four scholarships through via the University of Washington’s College of Education will provide the necessary funding for candidates to obtain teacher’s certificates. According to a press release, two additional scholarships are promised to help undo the ramifications of redlining in the Portland Metro and Spokane Metro areas.
“For 90 years now, our higher purpose has been devoted to ‘Living Life as a Contribution,’ and I can’t think of a more worthy cause than creating opportunities for diverse teaching candidates,” said J. Lennox Scott, chairman and CEO of John L. Scott, in a prepared statement. “The need for more diversity in education is at an all-time high… We have high hopes that this initiative will assist in creating a quality education experience for more youth of diverse backgrounds, which in turn will lead to the creation of more jobs, inclusion, advancement and equity.”
To promote change and equity, John L. Schott is advocating for mandated diversity, equity, and inclusion education for brokers and associates and to remove racist and discriminatory language from property titles, the release states.
