Portland-based Ferguson Wellman Capital Management has opened an investment advisory office in Bellevue to expand its services in the Puget Sound region.

The office, the first outside the Rose City for Ferguson Wellman, is headed by Chris Bixby, senior vice president. Bixby joined the firm this year and serves as portfolio and wealth manager for Puget Sound clients.

The Bellevue office is temporarily located at 3006 Northup Way, Suite 100, and expects to move into a permanent office in January or February.

While the Bellevue office is new, the firm manages $1.2 billion in Washington and has clients throughout the state, making it “a natural region to forge deeper local connections for our clients as they continue relationships with their current portfolio managers,” according to a Ferguson Wellman announcement.

As of Sept. 30, the privately-owned registered investment advisory firm managed almost $7.6 billion for 901 clients that include individuals, families, Taft-Hartley and corporate retirement plans, and endowments and foundations with portfolios of $3 million or more.

Ferguson Wellman also includes its West Bearing Investments division, which serves clients with investable assets starting at $1 million; and its Octavia Group division, which provides fee-based personal financial services for Ferguson Wellman and West Bearing clients with at least $5 million managed by the firm.

Bixby, a certified financial planner and enrolled agent, brings broad wealth planning to clients, plus strong knowledge of income tax planning in collaboration with clients’ professional partners, the firm said. Before joining the firm, he worked for Mariner Wealth Advisors and Key Bank as a senior wealth advisor to high-net-worth individuals, was a consultant with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and he operated his own finance and tax consulting company.
